At OICBT we understand the importance of involving families in helping youth overcome their mental health challenges. We offer a number of services for youth and their families including psycho-diagnostic assessments, as well as brief and long-term therapy options.

Choosing to be assessed and/or begin treatment is an important decision. We understand how essential it is to find the right treatment provider to help you and your family reach your goals. All of the clinicians at OICBT who work with youth and adolescents provide evidence-based services to help you and your family benefit as much as possible from your chosen intervention. We feel this is essential in order to give your child the best chance of success.

Treatment for youth often involves the provision of education for the family, individual therapy and coaching sessions for the youth, and parenting consultations to support the progress of the child in treatment. At OICBT, we also offer skills-based training for parents wishing to support their child in overcoming their mental health challenges, meet their developmental objectives, and put in place desired life goals.

Assessment
We offer diagnostic and psycho-educational assessments to youth with the goal of understanding each child’s mental health and education needs.

Please note that these assessments are only available to youth between 12-17 years of age.

The purpose of a psycho-educational assessment is to give the child, their parents and educators a detailed understanding of the child’s mental health and educational needs. Parents are actively involved in the assessment process and a designated teacher is interviewed in order to better understand the child’s functioning within the classroom.  This type of assessment is most helpful when a student is having difficulties with academic achievement, is not enjoying their school curriculum and/or is performing above their peers.  A psycho-educational assessment involves the completion of a set of standardized measures assessing general cognitive abilities, information processing, academic functioning and psychosocial functioning. While the assessment is tailored to each child, it is typically completed over multiple visits, with sessions including a general intake session, cognitive testing and a scheduled feedback session. In this case, a comprehensive assessment and a written report that includes specific recommendations is completed and can be shared with the school. The recommendations in the report will be specific to each child’s profile of strengths and weaknesses.

Treatment, Consultation and Coaching
Evidence based treatments are offered across a wide range of problem areas and include individual therapy sessions for the youth, as well as consultation sessions for parents and family aimed at supporting the youth. A cognitive behavioral therapy approach is used with youth and their families and individualized treatment plans helps to guide treatment for each client. Coaching sessions are also offered by members of the interdisciplinary treatment team to help youth put therapy goals in place and to increase academic and school functioning.  Our clinicians have experience in the following areas:

Abuse and trauma
ADHD
Anxiety
Depression
Family conflict
Grief and Loss
